If you are to just google what is the Art of Gardening, it will tell you Horticulture. But this is a scientific term given to this beautiful Art. But trust me there is more to gardening than its scientific name alone. With this beautiful beginning of the A2Z challenge, I will be taking you into the beautiful world of gardening and plants and how they have the power to give peace to your soul and mind. From my early days of childhood, I was hooked to the plants. Since I was quite young, I couldn’t buy my own plants but used to never be ashamed to ask for cuttings from neighborhood aunties who shared my love for gardening. From that first cutting of money plant, marigold seeds rose to graft to many more, I planted so many in my own small balcony at home. Being in nature has a way of taking away all our worries – or at least providing us with a temporary reprieve from all that’s bothering us.
During the pandemic times, I brushed up on my gardening skills and tried to learn as much as possible about the different types of plants, how to plant them, what kind of soil works best for them and how to take care of them. There is something about the beauty and peacefulness of the outdoors that lightens the stress load of the current pandemic situation. In this post today I am sharing about one of my favorite plants Anthurium that adds to the beauty of your house.

A for Anthurium
Anthurium is a beautiful-looking indoor plant that is widely used in landscaping and even as a house plant to brighten up that dull and boring corner.
Light conditions– These plants are happy when provided with indirect sunlight but when kept in dimly lit areas the growth and flowers get affected.
Type of soil needed– As far as the soil of these plants is concerned, they need soil to free draining but hold some amount of moisture and water too. If you are planning to grow this plant as a houseplant, a half and half mix of potting soil and orchid soil or perlite will provide the kind of soil anthuriums prefer. These lovely-looking plants do not like Anthurium plants don’t like continually moist soil.
Water requirement- They need moderate water regularly. Don’t over-water it. Touch the soil on top and if it’s dry then only water them. With over watering there is a risk of roots rotting and plants can die. You need to maintain fine balance and water accordingly. Not to dry and not to wet.
Fertilizer- Anthurium doesn’t require too much fertilizer. You can add good fertilizer one in 3-4 months. To get good bloom you need to add fertilizer with a higher phosphorus number.
Proper care for anthuriums is not very hard. You just need a fine balance of the right soil, right location, and regular watering. Isn’t it simple? An anthurium growing in your garden or home will reward you with wonderful, long-lasting flowers for sure.
Hope you loved reading about this beautiful blooming plant Anthurium. Stay tuned and do check out on other alphabets to come in every day and new varieties of plants and their care that I will share.
In the last year, I got a great opportunity to hone my gardening skills and nurture the plants just like my own baby. Every new leaf in my favorite money plant was witnessed by me, unlike other times when it would just grow and I notice it quite late. Gardening has reminded me this year of its magic and how it helped me yield some great home-grown vegetables. In other words, I’ve been enjoying the process and art of gardening.
