I am sure most of us will get into gardening as we like the greenery around. Plants are appealing to the eyes and have various benefits if kept in the house. However, most of us are also naïve and do not have all the important information related to plants. Which plant to keep, how much to water, which fertilizer to use, how much and which soil should I use, and so on. We have a plethora of questions. So today in this post of mine I am going to be sharing answers to a few common questions related to plants bases on my experience with gardening.

What are the easy and best plants to start with?
There are various plants that you could begin gardening with. From easy to manage to the most difficult ones all are available in the nurseries. But yes if you are beginning for the first time then you can start with some simple ones that do not require much care. You could try your hands-on
How do I maintain plants in my busy schedule?
Plants indeed require a lot of time, love, and care by their owners. Without care, they will die or will become dull. But I do understand that most of us won’t have that kind of time and will prefer plants that are not so much stressed. Well, you do not have to worry as there are plants that do not require much care and attention. You can go ahead with the money plant and its various varieties, ZZ plant, spiders, snake plant, bamboo, evergreen Chinese plant, and many more. These are easy to manage and just need moderate watering and will thrive happily.
When is the good time to water the plants?
Most of the house plants need to be watered at least once a week. This also varies on the houseplants that you are growing in the house. As a thumb rule keep in mind that the plants don’t dry out completely. And most of the time trust me plants die of excess water and not lack of water. Always check if the soil of your plant is dry and basis that you can water the plants. Last but not least, you should water your houseplants with lukewarm water instead of cold water, better if filtered.
Which location is better for my house plants? Do they need a lot of sunlight?
Most of the time different plants will have different needs. So, once you get the houseplant or before buying you could do a simple google search to see what kind of light does that plant requires. Most of the time indirect bright light is preferred by the plants. You can place them directly on the window sill or beside the bright window.
Why are my plants leaving drooping or turning yellow?
If the plants of leaves are turning there could be different reasons for it. At times due to the natural growing process of the plant old leaves turn yellow and fall down. If there is new growth happening then you do not have to worry about yellow leaves. If in case there is new growth then the reason for leaves turning yellow is due to overwatering of the plants. And if in case overwatering is also not a problem then try to shift the plant to a different location. Try these things and I am sure your plant will bounce back.
How can I take care of plants in winter?
All the plants are different and have different needs too. There are some plants that become dormant in winters and there are some that are growing and will need a lot of light during the winter season. With regards to watering you need to reduce the number of times you water the plants. Due to the cold atmosphere plants do not easily dry out and do not require much water as well.
Why are the leaves turning brown?
In most cases leaves turning brown are due to lack of water. And just like leaves turning yellow has many reasons similarly leaves turning brown also has many reasons. To begin with lack of water, use of the wrong soil for your plant, the plant may be root-bound, the plant may be looking for a repotting and it could also be turning brown due to the soil having a lot of salt. If salt is the reason, then you need to flush the post with a lot of water.
How often should I add fertilizer?
Most of the plants need regular nutrition and depending on the plants and their variety you should add nutrition at least once in a quarter to once in 6 months. Fertilizer also varies with plants, some may need phosphorus-based, some may need more nitrogen and some may have different requirements. So, check thoroughly in the nursery and after discussing with them then you can buy a perfect fertilizer.
What type of soil should be used for potting plants?
Most of the plants will grow perfectly in normal and regular soil. However, depending on your plant, you could check out organic matter such as compost and cocopeat. You could also add some grit such as perlite or sand for extra drainage of water. Avoid soil that is dug straight out of the ground. Few plants can grow just in cocopeat as well.
How to treat my plants if they catch an infection or are attacked by bugs and mites?
The first and primary line of treatment could be spraying shampoo-based water and even Neem oil can be sprayed along with water. This usually does its work and the bugs and mites may go away in one or two sprays only. If the problem is persistent then you could get organic medicine for plants from your nearby nursery.
