Dell Aarambh-#DellAntiRoteDay
It’s been over 20 years I guess when the computer was introduced to us in our schools. I can clearly remember the excitement to be able to operate the computer and open a pandora box of knowledge and information in front of us. Those were the days when personal computers had gradually paved their way in the homes and especially formal education at schools. With each passing year, we were taught various things related to computers and how it helps in making our life easier and minds sharper. Having seen various changes in the educational system over the years I am quite concerned as a mother. Rote learning is one of the ways of learning that is deeply ingrained in our education system. And somehow kids also fall into the practice of mugging up the subject matter without much practical knowledge. My daughter who is a 2nd grader now has been recently introduced to mathematical tables at her school. While I try to teach her the logic behind every answer in the tables, she wants to find an easy way out and just mug it up. This worries me a lot.
While we were in our initial days of education, we didn’t get much support in learning tables in a smarter manner. Wherein every answer is so related to each other. We were encouraged to just memorize the tables that caused problem many times when I moved up to higher classes. I would definitely not want this to happen with my children. Thus, I strongly support PC enabled learning for my daughter as she is able to look up for solutions and a better logical way of learning these tables and various other things in her curriculum. Mathematics tables are just one of the examples that I am highlighting, there are many other aspects that can be worked better with PC enabled learnings.
With an aim to help other parents also understand the importance of PC enabled learning and how Rote learnings should be discouraged at an early stage of a child’s education.
To begin with let’s start with Rote Learning. Well, as the name suggest its nothing but memorization of available information till the time it sits deeply in your brain. I was recently teaching my 1st grader on techniques to learn the mathematics tables and pat came her reply, Mumma, can I not memorize it, is there a way that I can just remember them without having to understand them? Unfortunately, this act of memorizing is Rote learning which is also the harsh reality of our education system to date. Well, the obvious answer to my daughters’ question was no as I strongly vouch for practical knowledge rather than mugging things up.
Today’s pressing priority- PC enabled learning
We have come a far way in our education system and computers have become an essential part of the learning today. However, as I said earlier Rote learning still exists in our system. So, what is exactly PC enabled learning? It’s relatively a new technique adopted by schools to make learning more fun and interactive. It involves children to be more attentive and involved in the overall learning process so that the concept becomes clearer and understanding becomes deep routed. Unlike rote learning, this helps in long term understanding of concepts.
In our house, we strongly prefer our daughter to have PC enabled learning as it opens a pandora box of information for her. She has always shown keen interest in our solar system. In order to help her understand the finer things about our Solar system, we provided her with a computer that has helped her relate to things better. From getting to know about various stars, planets, and other universal bodies she is quite aware of it now. This became possible as she had access to computers and the world of the internet. PC enabled learning indeed helps children as they can watch documentaries, play games, access the internet, watch video presentations, and much more on PCs.
Recently I saw my barely 2 yrs. an old son trying to tap on the computer keyboard and check out how his actions are changing the screen. It was proof enough that the kids who are recently born or the ones who will be born in the coming years will be born smart. Showing a keen interest in technology is something we see from the very early years of a child’s life. These kids are the future of our country and to ensure they are able to manage the growing digitization it’s a great idea to introduce computers to them from an early age and in a more systematic manner for better learnings.
Dell Aarambh- #DellAntiRoteDay
I am quite happy to know about this wonderful initiative by Dell. It’s called Dell Aarambh.
Amidst the traditional Rote learning methodology of our education system, Dell’s Aarambh is a wonderful pan-India PC for an education initiative that enhances learning using the power of technology. It is designed to help parents, teachers, and children find firm footing in Digital India. Realizing the fact that PC penetration in India stands at 10% they seek to connect parents, teachers, and students and provide them with the necessary training so that they can better utilize the PC for learning, both at school and at home.
In my opinion, as a parent computer-based learning should be given high importance in most of the activities at school. With every passing year, we are shifting more towards technological advancements. Thus, giving exposure to computers at a young age will only help them develop skills that adults have to catch up with. As a mother, I really appreciate such an initiative as we need to help our future generations to be able to accept the digital makeover of the world and they are equipped to handle the same.
Learning for anyone of us in never too much. We should give our kids digitalizing learning. It comes in handy.

I agree Rakhi, now kids learn fast in a much open environment. Talking about the math tables, here my daughter never learnt the tables the way we did at school. Instead schools teach kids the derivative form of the table. why 2*2=4. and also the stress is over mental math. I feel a blend of both is an ideal way. PC-based learning seems promising to me. I will check out the webinar.
Aarambh seems to be a wonderful initiative by Dell. With times changing, education and educating has changed as well and thanks to Dell parents and children can both take the next step towards new learning.
I agree on dear nowadays kids getting smarter & learning more speedy through computers. The way my son enjoy games which have maths base tricky questions make me wonder sometimes.
Dell is come up with great concept for kids learning in new way this is a great to go with post…. A great initiative by dell…
I have to agree that PC based learning has major advantages. PC based learning has changed the way we look at education.
This is such a worthy initiative by Dell Rakhi and has the times have changed today all the kids have taken to PC learning gradually which dell has foreseen before hand
totally agree with you on this node is kids or more active and smart and they learn quickly with devices as well I can see how the pick up every new activity just watching it.
Rote learning benefits no one as children tend to forget everything they have crammed as soon as the exam is over. This is a good initiative by Dell keeping the future in mind.
PC based learning has become all the more relevant in current scenario. Just imagine how kids would have otherwise get on with their school curriculum if PC’s wont be there.
Agree that we should not focus on rattaa learning method and more on practical knowledge. That’s great initiative by dell in making learning fun
I have heard a lot about this, will check for my kids too …the PC based learning is something that gives kids new learning sense
You are right now learning method is changed. My daughter also don’t want to learn tables in the way I learnt. I must say, Aarambh is the great initiative by Dell.
Dell Aarambh sounds like a wonderful initiative by Dell to bring PC based learning to kids. I am so happy to know that at least someone is worried about the rote learning method and are taking steps to remove it from our education system.
While technology and kids is a bit of a noisy topic, I do feel that smart ways to introduce kids to smarter tech apps/tools/devices only validates the fact that nothing is never changing. A wonderful initiative by Dell. Well done.
Nice to see Dell come out with this Anti-Rote campaign. True learning can never be acquired by rote, kids need to understand the basic concepts and then they can easily remember their learnings and apply them too.
PC enabled learning is indeed the need of the hour. It’s a commendable initiative by Dell India to spread awareness in this regard
Kids are much smarter noawadays and these sort of learning initiatives are really necessary for them. Great work by Dell Aarambh.
Good initiative. I agree learning by rote is NO Learning at all! Definitely, the methodology Dell has undertaken is a good approach to learning and really being in touch with technologies and staying ahead!
I really like learning the learning way there is nothing as important as understanding the concept and then learning it parroting any concept will never get you anything is a great blog post
This is a great initiative by Dell.I am going to join their webinars. Its also good that in this era, programs like Aarambh have been started to enable better learnings.
Yes even I let my son watch a little bit cause going by the books only will make him think and mold his mind to cliched rote learning
Rote learning can help score marks but it can’t help understand a subject… Understanding the concept is more important… Nice post!
Dell Aarambh is such a cool initiative. I always believe in understanding things in depth. Kids learn and get engrossed easily when it is done via a gadget these days.
I admit that pc based learning is very much helpful these days .. kid’s are getting smarter day by day ..
That’s amazing education initiative by dell arrambh on this dell anti rote day. Practical knowledge is very important
