Humans are known to change with time. When we are young our goals and aspirations do not have a definite form. With every milestone of life, we change and aspire to have different things. From our appearance, to how we talk, to how we deal with others, what are our political views to how our soul behaves all change with time. When I was young, I would frequently feel different about things I want in life and this change would cause a lot of confusion.
I am sure this is the time in everyone’s life where they need to see what’s more important to them. What they truly are, what makes them complete and so much more. These and many more have also been thoughts running in mind for a long time now. I often wonder what is the main reason for having born as a human being or for that matter what is the whole reason for being born. And this question seems nothing less than an adventure to me. Discovering who we really are and why we are born? So many of us walk around either not really knowing or listening to an awful inner critic that gives us all the wrong ideas about ourselves. Most of the time we do not know what is that we plan to do with our one precious life. For this reason, finding myself has been one of the most important tasks of my life.
In order to be the most important person for the people around us, it’s important to know who we really are, what are we made up of, and what we have to offer to relations around us. It’s like a personal journey we all should take and benefit from. It’s a huge process wherein we are required to shed layers of things that are not needed by us or do not serve any purpose in life. It’s more about identifying that one thing we cannot do without and feel utmost passionately for and go about fulfilling that.
Finding oneself is a journey, it’s a process that takes ages for some and some may find themselves in a blink of an eye. In all these 37 years of my life, I cannot say that I have found myself or the reason for being born. But yes, I have taken the first step in finding what is important for me. It’s been a phase of struggle but a great one wherein I have understood that family comes first. I have started putting my family and myself before anyone outside and I do not worry about others business anymore.

I used to have an unknown fear of losing my loved ones from the day I lost my mother some 11 years ago. But over a period of time and walking on the journey of finding myself I have realised I cannot play with god’s plan and natural elements. I have started focusing more on the present-day and people who I love and their well-being. I have stopped looking back and crying over what I couldn’t achieve or get in life. I have started being thankful for what I have and cherish it. For me finding myself was more about taking control of my own life. It was like getting personal power over my own self based on the strength, confidence and competence I gained in this process of my life’s journey.
Well, this is my idea of finding myself, finding the inner peace and contentment in how I am living and being with people around me.

Such an amazing post. Rightly put up the question, what is your reason for being. I could so relate to it as I have written series of posts about ikigai, finding your self, discovering self, your reason for being.
Love how you have written it
Such a beautiful write up Rakhi and I could come relate with my points from your post. Yes I agree that journey of self discovery and finding yourself is not easy. We all are ambitious by nature and often set many goals in various areas of life. But I feel along with all these it is equally important to enjoy sweet tiny moments of life with our family and dear ones. Journey of self discovery is a constant process and we can learn something new each day.
I agree fining oneself is a process but everyone should know who they are and what they really want. Self awareness is the key to happiness and success. Introspect what is your purpose of life will make it more meaningful.
There have been times when I’ve contemplated God’s plan in sending me in this world. Like you, I’m still figuring out what in made of and this inward journey is surprising and satisfying as well!
It’s so important to find the confidence within yourself and work on that. I am glad that you have written this post which really inspire!!
Bang on post! I couldn’t agree more than this that, yes, finding oneself is nothing but taking control of our own lives. Some may reach the destination at an early age, and some still wander here and there throughout their life. It is just a matter of understanding the actual worth of oneself.
This is such a beautiful write up Rakhi. I love the choice of words. I know you as a person and yes sometimes you have lost yourself while trying to please others. most of us have done something similar at some point of time. It is high time we all should focus on self love and give priority to it.
Rightly said, it is very important to know what’s making us sad and eventually curb it out from life. Self searching is a great way to know life.
