Menstruation is one subject that is still not much talked about. It’s always hushed under the carpets. Thus, despite having various concerns and problems women across age groups silently suffer from problems related to mensuration. One such problem is the use of sanitary pads.
According to various studies conducted, a woman uses 10,000 sanitary pads in her lifetime. The sanitary pads are of varied sizes and for different purposes as well. However, not everyone is comfortable with the offerings available in sanitary pads. Some may get rashes; some may face leakage and clothes getting spoiled to some may suffer from infections. The list just goes on. Not many are aware of the other safer and better options available for periods. In this post, I will be talking about one such option and how it is better than sanitary pads and i.e Menstrual cups. Let’s deep dive and know more about Menstrual Cups v/s Sanitary pads? Sirona Menstrual Cup Review.
What is Menstrual Cup?
The menstrual cup is a reusable silicon-based feminine hygiene product. It’s a small funnel-shaped flexible rubber cup made of silicone. It’s supposed to be inserted inside the vagina to catch and collect the period fluid. These cups come in varied sizes-small, medium, and large. Small is for first-time users, teenagers, and young girls who haven’t given birth. Medium is for the ones who are between 25-35 years of age, with usual to heavy flow, and have given birth. Large is for women over 35 years of age, with heavier than usual flow, and who have given birth.
With age, our body changes, and its reactions to sanitary products also changes. I have been using sanitary all my life till now, but due to increased flow and rashes, I decided to try menstrual cups. And that’s when I came across Sirona Menstrual cup.

Menstrual Cups v/s Sanitary pads
With all the benefits of the menstrual cups shared above, I am sure you can make difference between Menstrual Cups v/s Sanitary pads. Here is an infographic talking about the benefits of Menstrual cups V/s Sanitary pads.
As per the studies, most of the female population uses sanitary pads causing the maximum burden of waste on the landfills. Sanitary napkins are not eco-friendly and disposing of them takes years and years still they do not get disposed of well. If these napkins are burnt, they release toxic chemicals and gases that are harmful as well. Only when burnt at 800 degrees it gets burnt but that consumes a lot of energy. So, all in all, they are not a very good and effective option to use environmentally.
And that’s how menstrual cups make for a viable and safe option to shift to. Every citizen’s moral responsibility is to ensure that our mother earth doesn’t get harmed by this waste that does not degrade that easily. Shift to bio-degradable options and lead a healthy and safe life ahead. Last but not least with all the choices for feminine protection, it’s important that women across the world are educated about their options so that they can better manage their menstrual cycle—rather than being managed by it.
