I am sure I have mentioned this in my previous post but would like to highlight again how I started gardening. My initial days of gardening were supported by fellow garden and plant lover aunties who would generously give me their plant cuttings as I was just in 5th or 6th class back then. Times have changed now and gardening as a hobby has taken a proper shape wherein, we can buy any plant that we want from nurseries around.
When you are planning on setting up your own garden space or potting plants there are various factors to consider. From the available space, sunlight availability in your house, what kind of soil to use, how to care for them, and most importantly money that you spend on buying plants. If you are gonna be experimenting with gardening then it makes sense to go with plants that are cheaper and pocket-friendly too. So, to make your life easier I am sharing the top 10 low-budget plants to make your house beautiful.
Here is the list of the top 10 Low Budget plants
- Aloe Vera- This one the cheapest plant and very quickly grows as well. You won’t need to spend a lot of effort and money buying and taking care of Aloe. Its leaves are spiky and fleshy, and they can grow fast in a short time as well.
- Chinese Evergreen- The Chinese Evergreen is an economic and sturdy indoor plant that is best known for its subtle green coloring, striped leaves, and love of water. This plant has beautiful variegated leaves that add a unique touch of dimension and is known for being able to withstand overwatering easily.
- Philodendron– These are one of the most common indoor houseplants and for a good reason. They have beautiful, smooth green leaves, are relatively easy to grow, and are – best of all – inexpensive. They can easily grow and propagate using cuttings alone. Philodendron needs bright, indirect sunlight and moderate watering throughout the year.
- Spider Plant- Well this one is quite affordable. As the spider plant matures it grows offshoots and baby plant from its stems that can be repotted in a new pot and grow a new plant altogether. Easily available in the market and once it grows well you can multiply these plants in as many numbers as possible.
- English Ivy- This one yet another beautiful creeper plant that is easy on your pocket. The beautifully shaped leaves enhance the décor of your house. They can be grown indoors and outdoors as well with little to moderate care.
- Snake Plant- Snake Plants are great, cheap houseplants with a simple yet distinct look that will look wonderful with all sorts of interior decor. The Snake Plant looks especially nice with simple, solid color planters, and it’s famously difficult to kill.
- Devils Ivy- This uniquely named plant is great for a hanging planter. It has vibrant green leaves which add a touch of the outdoors right inside your home. Devil’s Ivy is perfect for the more humid rooms in your home, such as kitchens and bathrooms.
- Peperomia- In case you are looking for a simple, green, hard-to-kill plant than this one for you. Peperomia is a beautiful budget-friendly plant. This plant features dark green, waxy leaves that make them an interesting contrast against white pots or bright home decor.
- Peace Lily- Peace Lily is an inexpensive plant that features bright, striped green leaves and tall white blossoms which will add lightness to any living space. Best of all, Peace Lily can filter out toxins from the air, leaving your home’s air purified and fresh.
- Jade Plant- These are beautiful house plants with their round, thick and glossy leaves. They are inexpensive and easily available in nurseries around. Can be grown both indoors and outdoors easily with moderate care and watering. Jade plant is also easy to propagate
Gardening is a great hobby but also requires some amount of investment and lots of love and care. If you are a beginner then choose low-budget plants as you would be in the experimenting phase and even if you kill them by mistake it won’t cost a fortune to you.

You picked all the nice plants in this list. Good ones
A couple of days ago, I saw Peace Lily at my friend’s place and it looked so beautiful. I wanted to get one for my house too. Thanks for giving me other options.
I love keeping low maintenance plants around as with all the work and two kids it gets difficult to be more attentive towards gardening. I do have some herbs as well. Will definitely use some of your recos as well.
I loved your picks buddy, peace lily and jade are my absolute favourites I use them for decor a lot
very good list Rakhi.. have most of these.. n honestly one can never have enough of plants 🙂
That’s a good list of plants for indoor decor. We too have quite a few of them, from English Ivy to a few orchids too.
Of the list I have spider plant and aloe vera ta my house along with many others and I really liked some of them that you have mentioned specially the Lilly.
I have never thought of aloe vera as a decorative plant. Coming to think of it, this is a great idea. All the plants shared by you are beautiful. Moreover they retain their beauty year long as we don’t have to wait for the bloom.
